Viviane Fernandes is a researcher in the Telecommunications and Digital Rights Program at the Brazilian Institute for Consumer Protection (Idec), working in the area of Digital Public Infrastructures. She holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the National Museum (PPGAS/UFRJ), with a research period as a visiting scholar at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). She is currently an associate researcher at the Research Center on Culture and Economy (NuCEC) and the Laboratory of Anthropology of the State, Regulation, and Public Policies (DOCUMENTA), both affiliated with UFRJ. Her current research focuses on the anthropology of debt and the development of instant payment technologies in Brazil.
